Markwise vs Recall

Save tabs, links and video moments, then ask them vs. summarize everything into a knowledge graph.

Updated

Recall (recall.it, formerly getrecall.ai) saves articles, videos, podcasts and PDFs, summarizes them, and links them into a knowledge graph. Its free plan has unlimited saves and 10 AI summaries a month. Plus is $10/month billed yearly and adds unlimited summaries, chat over your knowledge, bulk import and spaced-repetition quizzes.

Markwise is a bookmark manager built around capture and retrieval: one link, a whole window of tabs (Focus Sessions), a YouTube moment, or a note, kept with its text, then found by meaning or asked in plain English with citations. Both products want the same thing: what you saved should be usable later. They disagree on where the work happens.

Choose Markwise if

People who save in bursts (40 tabs, a research afternoon, a video moment) and want to find or ask that pile later without studying it first.

Choose Recall if

People who want every save summarized, connected in a graph, and reviewed with quizzes.

Pricing

Markwise

Free tier available; Pro is $4.90/month or $3.25/month billed annually, with a 3-day trial for $0.99.

Recall

Free: unlimited saves, 10 AI summaries a month, MCP connector. Plus: $10/month billed yearly. Max: $38/month billed yearly. Prices from recall.it/pricing, October 2026.

Markwise Pro costs about a third of Recall Plus per year. Recall's free plan stores more; Markwise's free plan is a 50-bookmark trial of the workflow.

Capture: a window of tabs vs. one page at a time

Recall's unit is the item: a page, a video, a PDF, each summarized into a card. That is excellent when you save deliberately, one thing at a time.

Markwise's other unit is the session. The Chrome extension saves the whole window as a Focus Session (Option+Shift+S), names it, summarizes it, groups the tabs, and keeps the important pages as regular bookmarks with their text. Close the window; the work is still findable. If your problem is 40 open tabs rather than a reading list, that difference decides it.

Asking: both cite, and both plug into your AI

Both answer questions from your saves. Markwise Copilot (Pro) answers in plain English and lists the saves it used. Recall's chat (Plus) can answer from your knowledge, the web, or both.

Both ship an MCP connector, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other apps can use your library from inside those apps. Recall's is free and read-only. Markwise's can also save: your AI can file a link or write a note into a Space, and everything it adds shows up on an "Added by your AI" page with Undo. Markwise Free includes 25 AI-app searches a day; Pro is unmetered.

Studying vs. retrieving

Recall leans into learning: summaries on every card, a graph of related ideas, and quizzes with spaced repetition. If you want to retain what you read, that is a real feature set.

Markwise assumes you will not process most of what you save, and that this is fine. It files on save, finds by meaning, and answers when you ask. No review queue to fall behind on.

Why people choose Markwise

  • Your AI can save to the library, not only read it

Where Recall wins

  • Unlimited saves on the free plan
  • Knowledge graph and spaced-repetition quizzes
  • Android app and Firefox/Safari extensions

Frequently asked questions

Is Recall the same as getrecall.ai?+

Yes. Recall moved from getrecall.ai to recall.it. Pricing and the MCP connector live on recall.it.

Can Claude or ChatGPT read my Markwise library?+

Yes. Add https://api.markwise.app/mcp as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code, sign in, and approve. Your AI can search, read and save. Free includes 25 AI searches a day. In ChatGPT, custom connectors need a Business, Enterprise or Edu plan.

Which is cheaper?+

For the paid plans, Markwise: Pro is $4.90/month or $39/year. Recall Plus is $10/month billed yearly. Recall's free plan stores unlimited saves, which Markwise Free does not.

Can I move from Recall to Markwise?+

Get your links out of Recall with its export options, then load them with Markwise bulk import (Pro) as a bookmarks HTML or CSV file. Summaries and graph links stay in Recall.

The bottom line

Pick Recall if you want every save summarized, linked into a graph and quizzed with spaced repetition.

Pick Markwise if you save in bursts (tab sets, links, video moments) and want to close the tabs, then find or ask that pile later for a third of the price.
