New-tab tab manager
Markwise vs Toby
Arrange your tabs on the new-tab page vs. close them and ask about them later.
Updated
Toby replaces Chrome's new tab with collections of tab cards you drag around, grouped into spaces and shared with a team. The free Starter plan holds up to 60 saved tabs. Productivity is $6/month ($4.50/month billed yearly) and adds unlimited tabs, advanced search and AI. Team is $10/month per member.
Markwise is a bookmark manager with a tab feature, not a new-tab page. Save the window as a Focus Session, close it, and the session is named, summarized and searchable, with its important pages kept as bookmarks you can find or ask about later.
Solo researchers who close tabs to stop thinking about them, and want to find a page later by what it said.
People and teams who want their working tabs visible on every new tab, arranged by hand and shared.

Pricing
Free tier available; Pro is $4.90/month or $3.25/month billed annually, with a 3-day trial for $0.99.
Starter: free, up to 60 saved tabs. Productivity: $6/month or $4.50/month billed yearly. Team: $10/month or $8/month billed yearly, per member. From gettoby.com/pricing, October 2026.
Prices are close. The difference is the job: Toby keeps tabs in view, Markwise lets them go and finds them later.
Visible tabs vs. closed tabs
Toby's idea is that your tabs should live somewhere better than the tab strip: a new-tab board of collections you see every time you open a tab. That suits people who return to the same links daily, like a team's standing docs.
Markwise's idea is that most tabs you are hoarding do not need to be visible. They need to be findable. A Focus Session closes the window and keeps the work: a title, a summary, topic groups, and the important pages saved with their text.
Finding a page three months later
In Toby you find a tab by remembering which collection you dragged it into, or by searching titles (advanced search is paid). In Markwise you search what you remember about the page, and Pro search works by meaning.
On Pro you can also ask: "which of the vendor pages I saved last month had SOC 2?" Copilot answers from your saved pages and lists the ones it used.
Why people choose Markwise
- Close the window without losing the work

- Bookmarks, notes and YouTube moments in the same library
- iPhone app and share sheet
Where Toby wins
- A visual new-tab board
- Team collections, SSO and centralized billing
- Hand-arranged collections you see daily
Frequently asked questions
Is a Focus Session the same as a Toby collection?+
No. A Toby collection is a board of tabs you arrange and keep in view. A Focus Session is a saved tab set in your Markwise library with a generated title, summary and groups, built to be closed and found again.
Can I import Toby into Markwise?+
Export your Toby collections, turn the links into a bookmarks HTML or CSV file, and load it with Markwise bulk import (Pro). Toby's layout does not carry over; Markwise files the links into Spaces itself.
The bottom line
Pick Toby if you want your working tabs laid out on every new tab, especially with a team.
Pick Markwise if you want to close the tabs and still find, or ask about, what was in them later.
