Raindrop.io is the default recommendation for a reason: nested collections, a visual grid, a generous free tier with unlimited bookmarks, and years of polish. Most "best Raindrop alternative" pages ignore that and rank whoever paid for a roundup.
The honest question is not "which app has more features." It is "which failure mode are you trying to leave." Filing still depends on you. You want the box in your house. You want to describe a save you half-remember. Those are different jobs.

Stay on Raindrop if the grid is the product
If you like dragging saves into nested collections, sharing a visual library, and searching titles you actually remember, stay. Keyword search is enough for a library you still browse. Markwise is weaker at that browsing experience on purpose.
Ranked by job
1. Ask a mixed library — Markwise
Save a link, a highlight, a YouTube timestamp, or a set of tabs. Markwise files it. On Pro you search by meaning and a Copilot cites the saves it used.

Linkwarden preserves the page, not just the URL. Cloud is billed per user; self-host is the point for a lot of people. Pick it when the failure mode is "the site went down." Do not pick Markwise for WARC-style archives. We do not claim that.
3. Self-host with AI tagging — Karakeep
Karakeep (formerly Hoarder) tags on your hardware. Cloud Pro exists; self-host is free. It is not a research Copilot. If "the model runs here" is the requirement, it beats a hosted library.
4. Cheap, fast, no UI theatre — Pinboard
Pinboard is still the introvert's bookmarking. Tags, optional archive, tiny price. No Copilot, no visual library, no apology.
5. Private visual capture — mymind
mymind organizes a private visual mind. Weak if you need citations, shareable Spaces, or YouTube timestamps.
What the roundups get wrong
They treat "AI" as a column you can tick. Auto-tagging a screenshot is not the same as answering a question from your own saves. They also copy prices. Raindrop Pro is cheaper than Markwise Pro. That is true. It buys a different product.

How to leave without losing the pile
- Export from Raindrop (their HTML/CSV export, not a screenshot of the grid).
- Run it through the duplicate finder if the same URL landed in three collections.
- Import on Markwise Pro, or import into Linkwarden/Karakeep if you are self-hosting.
Do not delete the Raindrop account until you have opened ten random saves in the new tool. Retrieval is the test, not a green import toast.
